“I bought a ’30 Ford wagon and we call it a woodie (Surf City here we come)
You know it’s not very cherry, it’s an oldie but a goodie (Surf City here we come)
Well it ain’t got a backseat or a rear window
But it still gets me where I wanna go . . .”
Brian Wilson and Jan Berry - "Surf City"
Welcome to WoodiePix!
When I was a skinny 13 year-old ‘gremmie’ in San Diego the guy down the street had a woodie and I would see him going to and from the beach with his longboard protruding from the back. I have loved woodies ever since. They are the perfect icon for early 60s surf culture. The love and careful restoration that woodie owners lavish on their cars tells me that I’m not alone. I have tried to capture the color and magic of those early days with some decidedly modern image technology and techniques. I hope you like them.
